Thank you for a great first class this week. I am excited for the year.
For our first official blog/reflection please describe below (you can use the comment button) what you believe makes up a community. Is community important? Why or why not? And talk about what communities YOU belong to (church, neighborhood, culture, price, etc.).
I am sharing some photos from my trip this summer...I belong to a community of divers...once you experience it, you become part of the underwater world. A strange and lovely place. Please enjoy!
In my opinion, the people within the community make the community. However, it extends beyond mutual interests. I believe members of a community must not only recognize the existence of the community but also feel as though they are apart of the community. Additionally, members must also feel like they have something to gain and/or give (tangible or intangible). Community is important for the soul whether or not the individual realizes it. As we discussed in class, social interaction is critical to maintaining a healthy mindset. I think I belong to several different communities (some of which have more relevance at different times in my life; nonetheless, all equally as important). The most prominent being the Price Community (love y'all). Other, more "broad", communities include the African American Community, the feminist community, the knitting community (haha).
ReplyDeleteLeslie, if anyone ever says you're a boring person they're obviously stupid. Thank you for sharing your photos. That's incredible!
Yes, Desi,
DeleteCommunity should also be built with honesty and trust, I am glad we can all have someone to lean on!
Much love❤️ Enjoy your 20's - old woman!
Well said, Desiree.
DeleteI see a community as a group of people having a feeling of fellowship with one another due to the same interests and goals. In a community we all become well aware of each other's circumstances and we tend to be very close like a family. Having a community is important in my opinion, because we all need human interaction. When we are feeling down, we all need to feel motivated, happy and loved again, and in a community one can get that. Also being in a community can open many doors for you as you meet new people and share common interests. I currently classify myself as in the price community, a very large community with my church, and several with my sports teams.
ReplyDeleteHey Alexis,
DeleteSports is a great way to stay connected with a community of strong mind sets, usually there's competition but since your part of a team, it builds team leadership and a healthy competitive outcome! I believe you become family in sports because if one is missing y'all can fall apart!
Stay safe brother!
Fellowship is very important and it is a great feeling to know that you are a part of something positive.
DeleteThanks for sharing those amazing pictures, Leslie.
ReplyDeleteI believe a community embarks the stages of formation throughout human interaction (Desi, I stole this from you). Even though, it's not a separation among the civil world outside a group you have things in common. As a student attending community college, I am a soul believer that we generate the strong achievers from saving money on expensive classes, enduring in the college world while staying on budget, and directs us all to come from the same sort of background as community builders in our hometowns. Neighborhoods create strong mindsets because in the streets you look after each other and are impacted by water droughts and or crime watch.
Yes, I believe that being a community creates a transparent power of honesty, communication, and self assurance through keeping safe and having someone to lean on in difficult times of our lives.
I personally belong to many groups within my community of Chula Vista to the community of the Bay Area. In the Bay Area
1.I am part of a community called CMMA, which stands for California MultiMedia Academy, which sets features among all the actors, artists, journalists, and filmmakers of our generation.
2. NAHJ : I am part of the National Association of Hispanics Journlist club at San Diego City College as an empowering journalist.
3.ASG: I am part of Associated Student Government community which enables be to stay in contact with my peers and classmates around campus, serving as a Board of directors , withholding the position as a Public Realtions officer I am always aware of all the media aspects and how it plays a huge role on the way students decide their next moves.
4. RTVF Dept: as a film major, broadcast journalist, I am part of a community of radio , television and film student. We form a strong bond as a community and stay closer to eachother for support and guidance among a network of connections.
5. Mesa College Football Team: I have become part of their community by watching film with them and creating a strong bond with the love of football .
6.PRICE! I believe price is a strong minded bond that we all share, we know our deepest secrets and find comfort from within each and everyone of us.
Overall and above all, I believe that staying and finding a community based group is important but no one should discard the friends, or clasmates(PEERS) just because of interests of the community one creates. it should be neutral to think and become part of a community and being honest with yourself.
I am impressed with all of the responses so far. Very thoughtful and insightful young adults to be sure. So glad I am a part of at least one of your communities. I believe that more recent societies have lost their sense of community (every man for himself) and this has led, in part, to the sad state of affairs this country (and the larger world) finds itself. You are all the new hope.
DeleteL
So thought provoking and so on point. Glad you are a deep thinker and part of our Price community.
DeleteIt all on us to make our community stronger and united.we got to get involved about our sourrounding.and learn what can we fo to make our community better.Helping our community help us set to be example to others. yes our community is important because seting an example is going to motivate people to help others. The communities have to make a positive impact in our life in our society. You make good relationship with other people, see each other goals, and learn how to interact with others.Having price as a family make me feel accomplished knowing every one has goals to reach for and doing commuinity and service we are making a difference in people live for good.Going to church it an important in my life too.
ReplyDeleteLet us all be a part of the change that we want our community to be for the greater good of our society. It does take a village.
DeleteI believe a community is a group of individuals that come together to help everyone involved be great. I feel communities are in important for that very reason, it brings closeness, goals, dreams, and love. Some of the communities I belong to are MESA, Price, Chavista, skateboarding, and SD cooks. All of these communities have helped and continue to help make me great and I know that my contributions help those around me.
ReplyDeleteIt also looks like you are part of the guitar making community too. Awesome involvement in many communities and so glad that you are also part of the Price community.
DeleteI believe a community is made up of the people and things that not only surround you but influence you and your decisions. In life we all depend on one another and in order to be successful we help one another. That's why it's important to be part of a community since ots purpose is to bring people together as one and succeed as one supporting each other and not letting anyone fall atleast not alone. If someone does trip in the path of life the community/family he is part of will help him or her rise again. I have many communities I belong to first off my neighborhood, the price scholarship program, EOPS, church, and the Cesar Chavez club.

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing such beautiful photographs Leslie!
ReplyDeleteIt is my belief that a community is build by the people that embrace it and supports the people within the community to reach a certain goal. It is where one can feel comfortable and know that by being a part of that community you will receive positive vibes and helpful resources to become a better person. Everyone in the community helps each other even if their opinions are different; we stay open minded to new ideas and become a stronger community. I am proud to say that the Price family is one of the best communities I have been a part of because I know that regardless of the different opinions brought within our community, none of us will be judge. We all listen and even if we disagree we support each other and become better students together and this is what a community should be like. This is why I believe it is very important to be a part of a community, it unites everyone and makes us grow as one.
You are right on on your points. I like the good vibes part and being open minded.
DeleteI believe what makes up a community is a communication, the way we interact and express ourselves with one another. To me, a good community contains three components, such as mindfulness, acceptance, and diversity. Community is essential because you want to stay with people you feel you belonging so that you can trust and can communicate well with. The communities I’m belonging to are the City Height community and the Price family. For instance, in City Height, there are people coming from different culture, ethnicity, and backgrounds. Living in that community has shaped me to accept people’s differences. On top of that, I also feel belonging just like when I’m with my Price peers. We are physically different, but as a whole, we are one human race. Therefore, no matter what, all of us must be united, tolerant, and respectful.
ReplyDeleteLove this, mindfulness, acceptance, and diversity. YES! Trust and belonging are big in my book as well as celebrating our differences.
DeleteI believe a community is a group of people working together to have safely neighborhood and support each other. ReplyDeleteSafe and supportive as well as one BIG family. Yes to all of that!
DeleteWhat do you believe makes up a community?
ReplyDeleteI believe that a community is made up of people who strive for the same goal and help one another achieve that goal; Also, they care for each other as well as help each other.
Is community important?
Community is REALLY important because it gives people a sense of belonging and also support in some way or another.
And talk about what communities YOU belong to (church, neighborhood, culture, price, etc.):
As for now, I belong to the Price community, my boxing community at City Boxing, and the Science Fleet community. In one way or another everyone in the communities I belong to strive for a common goal, help, and care for each other. For example in my boxing gym, we may not all be striving to become pro boxers, but we all want to challenge our own selves to become the best we can be. Also we always make sure to help each other achieve improvement no matter what level you are in.
-Kenny Lozano
Helping each other and supporting each other, I'm in. I have always wanted to try boxing but I'm sure I'd be the first one to get punched and knocked out before I had a chance to learn anything, probably by the punching bag.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the people that are involved in the community its self makes the community. However, it depends what type of community you are in which creates that group. I belong to some communities like a bird community, technology community , and biking community. All of this communities makes us have more information on our topic and or subject, action, etc.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, what is the bird community? Do you raise birds?
DeleteFrom my perspective, what make a community is a strong friendship and collaborations. To have a strong friendship we all need to collaborate, because we need to hold hands. When I hear the word community what comes in mind is friends helping each other out and are there for each other through the thick and thin like a family and with a true intention and honesty. Since we are human being, we all have different personality in a very special way, but we are all one in a community. No one is left out no one is being judged we work together to accomplish our goals, and together building memories along the road. We are all on the same boat and if someone happen to fall off the boat (I don’t know why but I can see myself falling off the boat because I would be amazed I’m on a boat for the first time in life)....just kidding, if someone fall off we jump into the ocean and save our friend. A community is like a home sweet home, you love being around people in your community because you can trust them, you can lean on them, laugh with them, cry with them and truly we care for one another, that's my definition of a community. Yes community is important, life is way better when you are part of a community because you have people you know are there for you and you would less likely to say you’re all alone, and laughing together with big group of people you love is warm and fun and it will stay in your memories forever. I belong to a community once called Adventure club, Adventure club from high school was my home sweet home but now that I graduated it will stay in my heart forever. The warm laugh and the adventure we had together, the love we shared will always remain in my heart. Now I am part of Price community and I want to create lots of warm memories with you guys, a new home sweet home.
ReplyDeleteOh! and in a community when people mess with one they mess with all. just kidding.no. I mean it in the most positive way
:D
Love your statement that no one is left out, no one is being judged, we work together...home sweet home. Laughing together is so important and healing too. Let's do more of that together.

ReplyDeleteA community is made up if a group of individuals who have the same passion or goals and support one another to achieve their goals. There can be many communities as such and I believe that communities are important because it is good to have someone that has the same passion or goal as you because that's how you start a connection with someone. I come from a community of sports, dance, and also from the price scholarship community
ReplyDeletePassion, goals, and support. LOVE IT! That is why I love Price Scholars because they get it.
DeleteI believe a community is a group of people that support each other and have similar interests for the most part. To me this is important because this is a way you can network with people and you can get support from these groups. Many times these communities are good but sometimes they're not the best so it all depends on what fits you best. Currently I belong to some communities. I belong to my neighborhood, Price, game forums, and sports communities.
ReplyDeleteSupport network, YES! So what game forums do you belong to. Are you a Poke Mon Go gamer?

ReplyDeleteStrong bonding regardless of where we come from it is important to stay connected. Glad you are part of our Price community.
DeleteI believe a community is a group of people that find common interests or ideals, things that bring them closer together. I definitely believe community is important. It's good being around like minded individuals. It is also great source of support. The communities I belong to are Chicanx community, Izcalli, Price, Teen Producers Project, and QTPOC.
ReplyDeleteLike minded and a source of support... a fountain of love and common ideals.
DeleteI believe what makes up a community is a group of the same species, usually, who usually also have the same thoughts and or culture, that can understand each other. At times there can be dogs and humans together and it is still considered a community because it is a group who hang out with each other. Sometimes the community does not agree with one another but end up adapting to circumstances. I believe a community is important with humans, because we need to interact with others and find some sort of acceptance. I personally do not really need much interaction if people do not want to talk to me it is fine I can find something to do that does not involve human interactions. But for most people they do need to talk to someone or they go crazy some how. A community can also be important in order to learn new things and help a human evolve in knowledge to help their life become easier in some way.
ReplyDeleteI belong in multiple communities that are being a teenage mother, a single mother, a college student, ARE (Association of Raza Educators) which is a Social Justice club that involve teachers, students, and parents that believe education should be a human right for everyone that does not matter if you are from a different country. Those are all the communities that I can think of that I am apart of.
It is great to be a part of a community especially around the issues of social justice because that includes us all including our animal and environmental community.
DeleteA community is a group of people who try to assist each other. They are also united through similar obstacles, which allows them to bond. A community is important because it allows individuals to get through obstacles and create networks that will allow them to succeed. A community does not necessarily have be one specific group. It can help other individuals in need. For example, in high school I was an officer in Key Club, and we helped the the less unfortunate in St. Vincent's de Paul (Father Joe's) by volunteering in the cafeteria and providing dinner. Key Club is an international club located in high schools that focuses on assisting the community. I am part of the Price community, and Medtech Academy. I believe our price community can help others who are stuggling, not just our scholars.
ReplyDeleteAssisting and supporting each other no matter what the obstacles are we are there for each other and creating even a greater network over the years. Interesting that I was a member of KEY Club when I was in high school. ☺

ReplyDeleteA community is made up of people who have similar ideals, which is why when you decide to become part of a community you should seek individuals who have a lot in common with you. A community should encourage you to do your best and assist you whenever you're facing tough situations. In other words, you should consider your community as a second family. No drama, no hate, no negativity, and no gossip. Everyone should respect one another and value each individual that belongs to that community. I recently signed with Herbalife and belong to a great community of health coaches who teach me the values of having a healthy lifestyle, this also leads to my soccer community that has kept me distracted from bad influences which is why I value soccer very much, and last but not least I belong to the wonderful Price Community.
ReplyDelete- Jose M. Flores
No hate, no drama, no gossip. WOW, I wish we could all commit to that imagine what that community would look like.
DeleteSounds great...love it
DeleteA community is a group of people who help each other achieve either individual or shared goals. They support each other through hard times and look for everyone's benefit within the community itself.Comunitues can also be people who choose to gather together just to have fun and nothing else. Communities are very important because they make us grow faster and reach any goals we have, they also give us a sense of belonging which is essential for anyone's health. For a community to work correctly, there needs to be willingness in every individual to not only look for themselves' benefits but for everyone's. I believe that people who work together and trust each other achieve succes easier. The communities I consider myself part of are: My family because we all seek succes for everyone, the amazing price scholarship and the group of friends I choose to have.
ReplyDelete- Abraham Barragan
Yes, fun is extremely important because sometimes we do take life way too seriously. It is also great for our health. So glad Abraham that you are part of this community too.
DeleteYep, willingness to participate and belong is a critical piece.

ReplyDeletePersonally, a community can range from a small group of individuals to a whole nation who believe in the same principles. In addition, they share the same passion and try to achieve the same goal. A community has a very powerful role; it can be a support system to many and help others in a time of need. Also, a community can create friendships and assist others in achieving success. Therefore, I believe a community is highly important. I'm thankful that I have my very own community of those who care about me at home, and at work.
Passion and achievement that is powerful. We all need that system of support and friendships from those who truly care not just during the good times but through the challenging times too.

ReplyDeleteFrom my perspective, the community includes a group of the people that have same goals, and they try to achieve the goals. The community is important because with that people can have help, motivation, happiness, and be more strong to the problem. Without community we cannot share the Idea, listen to each other and improve quickly. I have belong several communities include my religion community is Baha’i and also I belong to the price community and Persian community.
ReplyDeleteA community that can help you, motivate you and be strong for you when you need that extra support is priceless. So glad you are part of our Price community.
DeleteA community consists of not only the people who surround you, but of those who stand by your side when times start to get rough. As a community, we're all just trying to make it in life. A community means having people who encourage and motivate you to do the right thing for yourself. It's those people who unexpectedly come into your life and just make things a little easier. Those who manage to make you smile when you're dealing with difficult sitution. A community accepts you for who you are and sees potential in you even when you have trouble seeing it in yourself. A community stands together in the good and the bad times.
ReplyDeleteLove your take on this Fanny. Helping you when things get rough and believing in you even when you have trouble believing in yourself is what supports you. Standing up for you even when you have trouble standing up for yourself. Happy you are here and part of this Price family.
DeleteAnd a community stands together in good and bad times...yes yes yes
DeleteI believe a community is made up of a group of people who have the same interest, goals or views as you. In order for your community to succeed there has to be equality and respect between the members of the community, and encouragement amongs each other. I believe having a community is very important because sometimes they happen to be your second family or home, and you're able to find some support you couldn't find at home or at school. The communities I belong to are Price, my job (Optik Designs), and my soccer team. In these communities I'm able to find different types of support that I might not find in the others, but what is most important is that in each one of them, we always encourage each other and seek for success.
ReplyDelete- Sergio Romero
We do always encourage and support you and remember there is no I in team. As a member of the soccer team you know that one very well. Your success is the success of us all. Glad you are part of our team.
DeleteCommunity to me consists of a group of people sharing some aspect of their life that they feel strongly about, and which might, to some degree, affect other areas of their lives. It is to a certain extent similar to a team, only that when you're in a community, you can rely on one another in more ways, and you support each other in perhaps more than one aspect, as compared to being part of a team.
ReplyDeleteCommunity is certainly important, but that doesn't mean it's a good or bad thing. It's important because through a common goal and dedication, certain traits and abilities are further developed that might otherwise have been left underdeveloped. It's also important because it improves your grit when trying to accomplish a certain goal, and once you accomplish it, you become aware of all of the hard work that went into it, along with growing closer to one another and increasing your self-confidence.
Price. When I first heard of this community, it felt as if I would never belong here. I thought it'd be for people other than me, as if it was meant for anyone but me. I was fortunate enough to make it to the interview process, and when I got the call, that's when I knew i was going to possibly be part of something greater. This small yet large community feels like home, and I know that every single person in it has something in common with me, besides being part of it, and it brings comfort to know that this family will always be there for me, whether it's going out to eat, or simply talking about my favorite things, I know I will be understood.
ARTS. As part of the Price Scholarship, I chose a site that was fairly local. Similarly, as I was part of a decaying visual and performing arts program in high school, I thought I'd get a bit involved with my community to bring forth a powerful tool that many of my peers might be interested in. Ever since joining, I have felt like I'm part of a family, and just like in Price, I feel I'm part of something greater than I could possibly be as individual right now. By bringing the arts to the youth in my local community, I feel I'm empowering them to become the next generation of young leaders who will care for one another and find a way to channel whatever difficulties they might be going through.
Nerd Nation. Although this certain community is meant for Stanford alumni, I feel as though my passion and love for Stanford University breaks that barrier between having been a Stanford student and only ever going to visit it. Though I'm more of a lone wolf when it comes to my passion, I know that one day I'll be part of this community and get to know great, amazing people with whom I will share lots of experiences.
Luis, I so appreciate your thoughts on this topic. You are a deep thinker and an emerging leader and I am so glad that you are part of this Price community as you will continue to enrich us all through your words and deeds. Thank you.
DeleteA community consists of a group of people gathering to make things happen. It is where all minds can input their ideas and turn it into reality. A community isn’t the ideas of one, it is where the individuals become one. Everyone shares a common interest or belief. It is a collaboration and if every single person doesn’t put their part it doesn’t work. Belonging to a community has many benefits. For example, it can help you grow as a person by teaching you how to work together, trying new things, becoming responsible, and taking leadership roles. It can also be a positive distraction. It opens opportunities to networking and expanding your circle. You may come in contact with useful resources. I belong to many communities such as GWEC, Academy of Finance, Price, EOPS, and Alma Latina Dance.
ReplyDeleteIt Can Wait .. texting and driving is no joke it can ruin lives and kill people. On the website sponsored by ATT itcanwait.com was a gallery of videos that depicted stories of people real and fictional of those who were effected by texting and driving accidents. These videos were really graphic and gut turning. One video that caught my attention was when the Father was dropping off his daughter to practice and on his way home to his wife there was kid in his car that he was imagining. He said that he would never answer his phone with a kid in the car. But he snapped back into reality and realized that no one was in the car but himself. then as soon as he picked up the phone to answer his wife that kid ran onto the road to chase after his soccer ball. the screen went blank as the kid ran shielded himself in slow motion while the SUV 10 times his size was skidding into his direction ..... At the end a quote came up that read "Your not the only ones on the road.
ReplyDeleteThree things I learned from Sandy's Drivers safety Presentation.
1. Don't drink and drive
2.slow down when you coming to turns if your car is tilting you lost control
3. In order to avoid an accident look to where you want to go. Don't stare at the persons bumper, if you do the more likely you are to hit them. Instead look for a way out.
I always had the idea that I would get some type of higher learning after highschool i just didn't know what kind. It was only after the 9th grade when I realized I wanted to go to college and be rich. It took me my junior year in high school to find a major that I would enjoy and make a lot of money from and that is civil engineering. Now in my second year of college I learned and created a belief system to help me achieve my goals.
ReplyDelete1. surround yourself with good people
-The people around you influence your decisions whether you believe so or not. Be with people that you can be yourself and you will know that they will have your back
2. Eat healthy and exercise !
-There is tooooooooo many people I know that complain about there health and they are only 30 ! That's why I try to eat as healthy as possible and stay away from junk. I also excersice to increase stamina and energy.
3.Work smarter not Harder.
-This is one of many MESA laws that Rafael has implicated into his program. Mesa gave me a ferrari to help me drive to college and it works ! You just gotta maintain and make sure doing all the work to keep it running !
My belief system changed when I realized I had to make changes to my life. My health wasn't good, my friends weren't the best, and I didn't know how bad I was at studying until I tried it the non-MESA way. Now everything is achievable as long as I maintain myself and my environment.
