Hi Scholars,
I hope you are having a good week!
For your blog this week please discuss at least one thing or event you recall from each of three decades from Wednesday's presentation that struck you as important to how YOU fit in and see the world and what events/moments have impacted your potential career/role in life.
I want you to try to recall something specific from your classmates presentations.
Also, if you get the chance to see the play on campus "Good Kids" this weekend, it has a powerful message. I highly recommend it. And one of our price scholars siblings is in the play. Extra credit available....
Goodevening Scholars ,
ReplyDelete1960's- I loved my group! Shout-out to Nelson,Sergio and Yasina! We worked so hard with our busy schedules and our work so putting this double (prezi and powerpoint) was all worth it at the end, we got up, kicked ass! I believe that one thing I can recall putting in the work on the 60's was how media had the most effect from within everything that was going on around the world. Without media, and its importance role in this era, there wouldn't have been great advertisement and attention towards the print (newspaper). Back in the days cellphones weren't that big of a deal, more people were most involved with themselves and creating great usage of their intelligence. In comparison now, I believe media is taken for granted.
In my career goal, this era plays an important role because it affects how media is portrayed, it has been more difficult to get into the industry of sports, because now the talents are underplayed and are much more concerned with the people who you know and the sex appeal towards the development of athletes involvement.
1970's-One of the greatest one that I saw that could relate to how we live in today has to be the 70's . A lot of our younger generation that was born in the 90's are more into the fashion and movements from back then. I loved the way Desiree's group got to rekindle all the music and actions taken from the 70's. Most of the information was new to me about women activists and movements, this made the presentaion more about learning and being brought into that world, along with the music in the background, it took me back to a year I wasn't even more into.
One thing I recall from this presentation was the hard work put into it, all members seemed knowledge and well informed. It made it relatively reliable to comprehend and retrieve the information more. I loved the fashion segment because it brought it to live and most of our generation is using this attire now.
2010's- I think it was '10, but I think this was the most relatable group for our generation. A lot of things have changed and more technology has evolved within kids. I think its funny how we cant go anywhere without having WIFI and telephone service. This group and its lasting thoughts upon their interviews were more informative because we can see from their perspectives, we have lived through theses year and it made it more and more understanding towards the music and movements. I do feel we live much faster and don't enjoy each other most of the time because of the impact social media effects us.I am glad many of us create marches and stand up for what we believe in and are free to speak and act.
This plays an important role within my goals and choices because its the way our generation can start making changes and generate useful ideas for our next humans coming into this world, we can make changes now, we have more power now, than we had back then, many open doors have opened and opportunities to do what we really want in life.
So apparently there's ONLY 4,098 characters and 817 words to type in this blogspot... (emoji annoyed face)
ReplyDeleteI got to see Good Kids 2x this week, I knew this story from back then and from my professor Katherine Rodda. This playwright was really great at the development of a tragic incident that happened within a set of football players and a girl at a party.
Honestly, when I heard about this incident , I was in denial any athlete was capable of committing this act. (Don't want to give anything away) but.. I do want to say, please watch the background story before, the youtube channels, the news from the time, and understand it in both perspectives! Come with an open mind and questions! its a perfect time to be bringing awareness of ,"rape" onto this generation and time in school because you get to know, " what is define as rape", "when does it become rape", and our rights as a male and female. This play shows both perspectives, no right or wrong, no sides, just plain and simple to give consent wether or not your drunk or unconscious.

Delete1950's: In the 1950's females were allowed to work in industries due to the lack of male dominance, since they were all participating in World War 2.
ReplyDeleteI recall that all of the members of the group were dressed according to the era.
Knowing that females were not allowed to learn about science or math in the 1950's was an impact on my career goal. It made me appreciate our current era because I want to become a Nurse Practitioner, which involves both science and math. I realized that we now have this privileged/opportunity that should not be taken for granted.
1970'S: The gay rights movement gained a large amount of popularity. If we compare it to our modern world, the movement has come really far. Now we see gay partners walking freely and not being discriminated against.
I recall that this group explained their information well and were displaying songs from that era.
2010: Social media has played a large role in our community. I recall them stating about plastic surgery being more common and I believe that has to do on how we view ourselves and how social media is now portraying cosmetic surgeries as a social norm.
I remember they had trending information, and videos that were popular in the early 2010 to current videos.
I recall all of the members of the groups and there decade. But the one that for me really hits home not only because I was in that group but we where all raised in that decade I think it was 2010. I think this was more relatable for us because were all raised in that generation. A lot of things have changed as the time has passed by,but what seemed to change more in this era would defiantly have to be technology and its involvement, not only with adults but with kids too. Its funny to see how we can not go anywhere without having WIFI and telephone service. LOL this was really a struggle for everyone when we went to the retreat. I think that our groups interviews were informative because you can see from our perspectives, we have all lived through this year's. I think that we live much in a dystopian society that is slowly being controlled by the government and technology and we don't enjoy each other like we used to because of the impact social media has made on us. I cant imagine what the future would look like but I would rather not think of it, lets just live life to its fullest.

ReplyDeleteTo be honest I suck at dates and I have horrible memory, so I'm just going to talk about a concept that stood out to me. The role of women in America! I was able to see how women struggled to be treated as equals even after they stood up during World War II and took on the role of bread maker and at home mother. This has been so ingrained in American society since the very beginning and it's difficult to say why it's so. Today women struggle with equal pay and I know that will affect me in my carrier choice. But I go by the concept that things don't change unless you make them change, so to all the girls out there! Lets get in positions of power so that we can create a change for ourselves. :)
ReplyDeleteI obviously fit into the "2010's" timeline. It was indeed my group but I just ain't into old school stuff and etc. I didn't even know who John Lennon was.. however, I did find all the other decade presentations interesting. I'm thankful I get to live in the twenty first century, because there is no way in hell I'd survive back in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. Thank the lord for wifi, technology, and social media.
ReplyDelete- Jose Manuel Flores
The 2000s definitely brought so many memories, from the music to the movies. I found it interesting how throughout the decades fashion has been back to the 2010s from all the decades (I had to research fashion for my decade) Besides fashion and music I loved being able to interview someone from the 50s in my decade. That's definitely one of the best parts of this project and I'm not so sure if this is answering the main question but I had to point that out for future presentations. Overall I think one of my favorite decades was the 70s (besides my decade :p) Nichole looked so cute with her roller skates which excuse my ignorance but I didn't know those were from the 70s. Everyone did a great job and I'm looking forward to more fun presentations!
ReplyDelete50's- I recall the clothing. Women starting to wear tighter clothing, also the bullet bras. The group was all dressed in 50s attire. The first barbie
ReplyDelete60's- There was a lot of sports information presented.
70's - I didn't realize how much took place in the 70s and how many things began like Gay Pride day and Earth Day. Also how much music changed each year, it seemed in the other decades the music stayed fairly the same throughout.
80's- Nang's G R E A T video
90's - Itzel's outfit connection to the 90s from her mom.
2010's- Very social media driven, slang has come quite a long way
I forget which decade had the toy where they used a real potato but that stood out to me too. My memory kind of sucks but these are the things I can recall clearly.
50's Women fashion was AMAZING. I do not remember if Lizbeth was in that group but she looked great with her outfit from that time.
ReplyDelete70's the way the group did their presentation was great and creative. I also liked how they were playing music in the background.
80's Nang's video was hilarious and creative.
90's I was in this team so it was perfect. I recall itzel talking about the role models and it was pretty interesting.
2010: this presentation was great because we can really relate to it. The slang they showed was accurate and we use it a lot.
Everyone did an AMAZING job!!!
50's- I liked this group's outfits since they were good examples of the fashion in this time period. I recall the developments for the hydrogen bomb starting and inequality for females in education was strong, which made me realize how current improvements have affected our society greatly.
ReplyDeleteI was in the 90's and many of the lifestyle trends impacted me growing up. My parents were definitely influencing me and the interviews only boosted my confidence in getting an education now even more.
The 2010's presentation also caught my attention because here in America, all that they mentioned does affect each of us. The slang, Music, and fashion is noticed everywhere and hard to just ignore. But I can truly agree with that the technological advances of this decade have brought a lot of change to our lives. What I have now does not compare to what my parents had just a decade ago.
60's: I liked my own group presentation, doing research and digging deep for information I came acrosssl things I didn't know. It was a good experience learning new things and being able to see how the problems that happended in the past, affected us in the future. I also liked my partners, they did a great job and were easy to work with!
ReplyDelete90's: I liked this decade because of the music that was out during that time. Some of the music today isn't as good compared to the music in the 90's. I was able to relate to what Itzel had to say about the outfits and lifestyle in Mexico because my mom was somewhat similar.
Obviously, I can relate to the 2010's presentation because that's the era I grew up in. However, I don't use some of the slangs that are popular, but I am aware of them
Yay!
Delete2010's - I liked the 2010's the most because I love living in the moment. I enjoyed all the presentations but I whats going on currently is what really is grabbing my attention. I enjoyed seeing the fashion trend as well. Nangs video was also hilarious she has an amazing sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteI like all the group because they all had great important event. Working as a group is important n learning from each other. I like the 2010 style because I lived there tht year. In the 2000 group I learn the styles how celebrity dress so different to now 2016 n the important event of the twin towers n when George Bush was nominated. I like the 50 because it remind me of the grease movie (: the people tht added video make the presentation more interesting (:
ReplyDeleteThe decade I would recall the most important to how I fit in and where I was raised in that generation were the 90’s and 2010’s.
ReplyDeleteI was in the 90's group. I really like the fashion at that time because many fashion from nowadays were mostly copy or recreate the styles from the 90s. The 90s was the revolutionary to start the new technology such as TV, cable, internet, and videos games.
Similar to 2010s where we all have freedom, equal gender roles, and more diversity. The 2010s was continuing the improvement in technology, TV show, music, multiculturalism, and internet.
I remember the popular videos they put on YouTube and a picture that portrays a male is taking care of his child doing the chores from the 2010s decade. Also, I want to recall Nang’s interview video, it was very funny and creative.
1950s: I really enjoyed the fashion! The group really took the time to analyze not only the fashion trends but the reasons they existed.
ReplyDelete1990s: The 90s have always been really fascinating to me because I alive but barely. SO, it's close enough to relate but far enough to still make me a baby. Either way, the 90s really touched on music which I really enjoyed. I would have loved to see more of the fashion.
2010s: Was fun because I could relate to a lot that happened. The slang especially was really funny because I say/continue to say much of the language presented.
I enjoyed all the presentations but I whats going on currently is what really is grabbing my attention. I enjoyed seeing the fashion trend 1950s as well. Nangs video 1980 was also very good she was amazing and we had so fun during to do our presentation.2010 I understand better and have more connected and it was fun for me. also I like the 1950's about the females were allowed to work in industries due to the lack of male dominance.
ReplyDelete1950's I loved how they presented some information, but I think they could've done a better job towards the end. I like how they fittingly displayed the fashion of the time.
ReplyDelete1990's I've ALWAYS loved the music of that time and they did an awesome job covering it.
2010's It was very much so how it is today. They covered a lot of what is going on today with society, from youtube and slang and how the roles have changed slightly in the family aspect.
