Believe? Blog #6

Hi Scholarly folks!
I hope you are actively exploring your health topic and planning a fun and experiential presentation for Wednesday. Please do not miss the class!! This should be fun and hopefully each of us will learn at least one or two new skills to incorporate into our daily healthy life!

As we enter the 11th week of fall, I am wondering how many of you are feeling more confident in your abilities to succeed in college....that is, what skills are you learning and what experiences are you havingthat allow you to BELIEVE that the goals you are putting in your dream books will come true??

I have heard from so many of you that a year ago you didn't think you would ever even come to college...what has changed for you??

For our blog this week, can you identify ways your belief system is changing about your own ability to achieve your goals in life (health, family, school, career, etc.)

Oh, and THANK YOU EACH for the lovely card and cake (and song) for my birthday. I feel the love!

DEFINITION:
Self-efficacy, also referred as personal efficacy, is the extent or strength of one's belief in one's own ability to complete tasks and reach goals
Self-efficacy affects every area of human endeavor. By determining the beliefs a person holds regarding his or her power to affect situations, it strongly influences both the power a person actually has to face challenges competently and the choices a person is most likely to make.

  1. Over the past few months I have learned that I have to put myself first. If I don't feel emotionally stable then I know that I won't be able to have a successful month. Therefore, I won't focus on my education or work. That's why it is important to know yourself and detect when something is wrong, and then find ways to fix it. As for my career, I am debating whether I should change it, but I don't know what it should be.

  2. Hey scholars!

How are all of you guys doing! Hopefully great and determined by now! I want to say and apologize for missing a few lectures and classes! I know all of you have gone to each and every single one of them without any hesitation!

Throughout this semester everything has been and gone crazy! I went into the semester thinking I could've done it all and wouldn't need much help, but let me tell all the extracurricular activities are taking a toll on me, if I miss one or another I get tallied on as a miss no show, it's hard to protiorize which one is important when your care for all of them!

Health: It's funny because I go run at the convention stairs once a week, and go to my football clinics every 4th month of the month so my weight is still an issue and sometimes it's hard keeping focused on it. Overall, I started meal prepping , which is time effiently and saving me butt loads of money!

School: my professors are tough, but communication is key, I'm taking in 17 units, which is completely hard but I'm staying focused and taking it a day at a time!

Family: my family dresses the living shit out of me! eventhough I love them , I do feel used, and neglected but all I can do is communicate and set limits!

Career: I've started my first show promo with baseball , a sport I've never thought I've learned about other than football!

APTRA: this is xmas present to myself it's a 2 day very intense course camp in Malibu , CA for film and journalists! So excited!

PITCH: I got booked for again! Been going for almost 3 film days! Catch me on Fox show!

    Overall , I'm doing 6/10 .

  4. I can definitely relate to what Lizbeth touched on in terms of "putting yourself first". Transitioning from young adulthood to adulthood is more difficult than what many people make it out to be. You're finding your own autonomy while still managing close dynamics in your personal and even professional life. With that being said, you may often feel the pressure to please the people around you. People will have a lot to say about the decisions you make and how you choose to live your life, regardless if you yourself are completely happy with what you're doing. I myself have learned to be adaptable. Things do not always go as planned or the way you want it. Somedays, you may have nothing to do and somedays you may have 8 billion things to do. But if you fold under the pressure, you aren't able to move forward. I like to focus on one thing at a time. But i also like to remind myself of what's important. MY health, my happiness, my family. It's all about the balance. I believe I've always had a strong sense of self-efficacy. I do doubt my abilities and questions my own decisions at times. But overall, I just REALLY try to remind myself of why I'm doing what I'm doing. Why am i waking up everyday to go to school, go to world, go volunteer and so on. I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to go to school because many people do not have this opportunity. I will continue to make the most out of it.

  5. Over the past few months my beliefs have absolutely given a 360° degree turn. I learned that the people who love you will be there for you no matter what even if they can't be there for themselves. I have learned methods to control some aspects of my life and I'm working in others. I am grateful for being where I am right now surrounded by incredible amazing people and the ones I love most. As of school I always wanted to be a phsychologist and that hasn't changed I am still interested in helping others.

  7. I think everyone should simply not give a fuck about what others think. Don’t let anyone’s negativity hold you back from achieving your goals. You gotta be mentally strong and stable to get through all the bullshit in life.
Health: Trying my best to stay healthy, I distress myself from school and work by going for a run.

School: This ain’t nothing like high school. Back then id slack on due dates and essays, However, do that in college and you’re fucked. Overall, I’m enjoying this college life experience.

Family: Shit happened, I don’t really engage with my family as I used to. We seem to be more distant now. We barley talk or go out on family days. But at the end of the day, I love em.

Career: I’ve always had passion for medicine and science which made me want to major as a Registered Nurse in the near future. However, I’ve encountered many bullshit along the way. People throwing shade at me saying it’s impossible for someone like me to become a nurse someday. They see me as a bad guy or some shit? Not only that, but I tend to be math challenged BIG TIME. Sometimes I just feel like saying “fuck this” but then I remember, this is a career I’ve cherished my entire life. I remember playing Doctor as a little kid alongside my mom. It’s tough, but I don’t want to give up that dream.

  8. Before I do my blog I tend to read everyones opinions before I write mine and I agree with Lizbeth and Desiree. I believe that if you truly want to be successful and accomplish your goals you must be selfish at times. Coming from a traditional Mexican family, it is hard to make my family understand that to be happy with my career I must go with what interests me, my passion and believes. I am not going for the money, I want to build a future on my own doing things I enjoy and ignoring what others think because as long as I am happy with my decisions then I am doing the right thing. It is hard being a first generation college student and not having that help from your family but even when your family doesn't understand your decisions at the end of the day they still love you even if sometimes they don't support you. Eventually they will notice why you made those choices and sometimes we might make mistakes but that is part of growing up. As we make mistakes we learn from them and work to change so that we are lead in the right direction. Besides putting yourself first you must also keep a healthy lifestyle (its my presentation, pay attention)

  10. As of now, I'm having a really rough time with school. I'm not quite sure what it is about it that I just can't seem to be on my game in recent weeks. This however, has helped me realize that I'm far more resilient to these sort of difficult times than I previously thought. One thing that always keeps me going is that EVERYTHING happens for a reason. I might not know what it is this very moment, but I always remind myself that there is something hidden behind every event in our lives. This, as a result keeps me believing that I'll reach my goals, even if they change far the line.
As far as the difference between last year and this one, I'm putting a lot more of effort into everything I do. Along with this, I've seem to have found a very good balance between classes, work (or volunteer work) and personal pleasures. It's somehow fallen into place for me, and I'm very grateful for that, as it keeps me in check that there's a TON of progress that I've made over the last months

  11. I always have a positive mindset on my goals in life. It taked hard work and throughout that journey there will be struggles. My main struggles right now are school and family. I need to learn to balance both things in order to keep a positive mindset. I believe I have the ability to balance it out but it will take some work. I've always had the picture in my head of me being successful in life and it hasn't changed I'm always striving to be the best me and prove people wrong. Right now I progress is what I need I have so much to learn and everyday I'm getting better.

  12. In these few months I have learned to not underestimate myself. Many people have adviced me many things based on their own experiences but I believe everyone is different. So based on that, I learned that it is okay to do your own thing if you believe you're capable of it. It's also important to hear people out and take advice but don't think their advice applies to everyone.

  13. Being a college student has help me become a more confident person and be aware of what I am a cable for. I always knew I had the responsibility to get a higher education but now that I am actually doing it it helps me realize that everything is possible with enough hard work and motivation. Another thing that college has helped me is to realize the many opportunities I have and not to waste them, it also made me realize the hard work my parents have work and not no water what they've done for me

  14. Truth is part of being successful is doing what's best for you, which means not putting everyone before your needs and it just slows you down. Because I need to understand that only control my success and by doing that I won't succeed. Also knowing your worth loving yourself as an individual, and doing things that will better you. I always try and be positive but I can only fake it for so long, you can't solve every situation but you can find ways to deal with it so it becomes numb to you.

  17. Being a college student, I have learned that time management is very important . If you know how to manage your time wisely, you will not end up being procrastinate that much. Also, I've learned to always stay motivated, follow your heart, and most significantly believe in yourself knowing that you can fight in any obstacle.

I'm pretty good with taking care of my health because I get 8 hours of sleep every day and I eat regularly.

  18. After starting at City College and attending personal growth, I have learned a lot and my belief system has changed. When it comes to health, staying physically active and making time in our days to eat are really important tasks that I focus on more. I have gained a lot of confidence in my schoolwork and I am more determined to succeed now then I was before. I am believing more in myself because it's up to me to accomplished my desired goals, no one is going to hold my hand anymore and that's honestly a good thing.
