“If we do not act, we shall surely be dragged down the long, dark and shameful corridors
of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without
morality, and strength without insight.”
---Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
“I believe that serving and being served are reciprocal and that one cannot really be one
without the other.”
---Robert Greenleaf, educator and writer
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world:
indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
---Margaret Mead
Do YOU have a quote that you want to share?

“If we do not act, we shall surely be dragged down the long, dark and shameful corridors of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without morality, and strength without insight.” ---Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
ReplyDeleteWhen I read this quote, I realized that if we don't take action and change of our decisions or habits for something better/positive, then we will be stuck in the same path. Sometimes we need to get out of our comfort zone and take action, maybe it could lead us to something we have a passion for.

“I believe that serving and being served are reciprocal and that one cannot really be one without the other.” ---Robert Greenleaf, educator and writer
My mom has taught me to do favors and not expect anything in return. In fact, she says that God looks at our actions and rewards us when we do something good. However, when someone does something for me, I return a favor in order to demonstrate appreciation.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” ---Margaret Mead
This reminds me of our Price Family. We are all capable of changing the world with small actions. Even by contributing at the service sites is part of this "change".

ReplyDelete“If we do not act, we shall surely be dragged down the long, dark and shameful corridors of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without morality, and strength without insight.” ---Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
As a student leader around City College, I believe that we should create our own paths because we are very unique and showcase a different story. We become more than just another admission when we transfer and move further up in our lives. Having passion from within your studies plays an important role in life, just as, MLK mentions, “…who possess power without compassion”, these are important words as students to live by because were here all day at school and fighting to be someone in life, so we better be assured were in-it to win –it! I believe that straying humble and showing compassion creates more power because of your network circle. We must fight for what and what we believe in and not be afraid to stand alone.
“I believe that serving and being served are reciprocal and that one cannot really be one without the other.” ---Robert Greenleaf, educator and writer
Yes, I relate to this quote because as a serving member of the student government at City, we have almost 30 voting members and we argue with reason, passion, and sources. There are lots of members that know more than one itself, which works fine because we get to learn and build our knowledge from them. We all have different backgrounds and talents that reciprocate our expanding to create a strong board!
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” ---Margaret Mead
I totally agree with this quote because as a minority student of the Hispanic culture we are formed in a small group that we have so much pressure as first generation college students to make something from ourselves. A perfect example would be my participation among the NAHJ, (National Associations Of Hispanic Journalists) , we are a small group of different backgrounds , all with the same passion and dreams of being well-respective journalists in America.
My favorite Quote is:
As a film major:
I don't think it's the job of filmmakers to give anybody answers. I do think, though, that a good film makes you ask questions of yourself as you leave the theatre. -Paul Haggis
As journalist:
Journalism will kill you, but it will keep you alive while you're at it. -Horace Greeley
As a sports Journalist:
I don't cheer for anyone because my job is obviously more important, but the reason why I got into sports is because of my father. He's a giant sports fan and we are from New England, so he cheered for the Celtics and the Red Sox. -Erin Andrews
I love this quote because as a sports journalist you have to be unbiased among a sports team because your job is just to report not to cheer, but your home teams are for the heart.
“If we do not act, we shall surely be dragged down the long, dark and shameful corridors of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without morality, and strength without insight.” ---Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
ReplyDeleteMy interpretation of this is that if you don't want to possess power with morality then you have to act with good intentions. It's like letting something bad happen by not taking action to stop it.
“I believe that serving and being served are reciprocal and that one cannot really be one without the other.” ---Robert Greenleaf, educator and writer
This quote is true for me because I believe in giving back even if I don't get anything in return. This served as a reminder as to what I consider "success". I personally want to have a great impact as a part of my success.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” ---Margaret Mead
I believe these are very powerful quotes because they are true. I believe in self advocacy so imagine if many people truly stood up for what they believed. This is why I think Margaret Mead's quote is the most important one because many people don't realize that unity has a greater impact.
I don't know if this is a quote, I saw it on a frame when I went to Walmart and it says
ReplyDeleteLIVE YOUR DREAM
DO WHAT YOU LOVE
CHERISH EVERY MOMENT
BE BRAVE TAKE RISKS
CREATE YOUR OWN HAPPINES
HAVE AN OPEN MIND & HEART
MAKE A REAL DIFFRENCE
NEVER GIVE UP DREAM BIG
BE FEARLESS
MAKE EVERY MOMNET COUNT
TODAY IS THE DAY.
/This is really powerful because it tell us some really great tips that we can use in life.
1. I see the first quote as a reminder to always be aware of your actions and how they might influence an outcome. Whether it's an action to make the world a better place, or redesign yourself as an individual; you should go for it. It's all for a better outcome
ReplyDelete2. In other words help others when you can and do it because you want to. As human beings we should help those in need, obviously that ain't the case with everyone but there's still some good in humanity out there that shows kindness and support towards everyone. What ever you do in life comes right back at you.
3. Everyone has the potential to change this world. However many tend to give up without even trying. I think that if you're committed and strong minded anything is possible. The only thing holding you back is your own "doubt".
My Quote: "I understand that you may not like me, but I need you to understand that I don't care"
- Kanye West
“If we do not act, we shall surely be dragged down the long, dark and shameful corridors of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without morality, and strength without insight.” ---Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
ReplyDeleteI think this reflects much of the social climate today. Those in power have their own best interests. But corruption and immoral actions are the product of an entire society. Those who are unwilling to act are just as responsible as those doing the disruptive behavior.
“I believe that serving and being served are reciprocal and that one cannot really be one without the other.” ---Robert Greenleaf, educator and writer
In my opinion, this speaks on the cyclical nature of learning and education. In all realms, we are acceptors of information and we share information with others. Additionally, it is unjust to deny the sharing of information with others. If others are unable to receive information, then they are unable to share information. Learning should be a right, not a privilege
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” ---Margaret Mead
Innovation is the product of need and desperation. Even more so, those okay with the status quo are less likely to advocate for change. Marginalized peoples are more likely to want change.
My Favorite Quote:
"Love is or it ain't. Thin love ain't love at all."
This quote is important to me (among others) because it reinforces the value and importance of self-love and love for others. In short, you can't half ass love. Either your with it or you're not.
“If we do not act, we shall surely be dragged down the long, dark and shameful corridors of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without morality, and strength without insight.” ---Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
ReplyDelete-What I got from this quote is the concept of living with regret if one does not contribute their part, it is similar to the saying “If you have a voice then use it”. If you have something that can contribute good to a greater good or cause then you should contribute because if not you will spend a long time being ashamed or reminiscing.
“I believe that serving and being served are reciprocal and that one cannot really be one without the other.” ---Robert Greenleaf, educator and writer
-I don’t know how to describe this quote other than to give an example: If someone loves helping people they obviously do it to help the other person but in a way they do it for themselves to feel better. A lot of people will argue this but there is kind of a sense of fulfillment when we serve others.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” ---Margaret Mead
-What I got from this is that it doesn’t matter how many people are committed to making a change, as long as that small group of citizens are determined towards a common goal then it’s all that matters.
I don’t know where this is from or who it’s from but I feel likes it really true especially as college students:
“You have to step out of your comfort zone. Be broke for a while. Lose friends. Sleepless nights… Most people don’t get it though.”
I applied this saying to the lives of many college students because college is about stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new things. Also, being a college student is really expensive so we are broke most of the time while our friends who don’t go to school are making bank working nine to five jobs. A lot of the time in college we have to choose between friends (partying, going out etc..) and homework or school so we lose friends. For sure college students have sleepless nights maybe because of procrastination, stress, or other similar feelings. Although we have to deal with stepping out of our comfort circle, being broke, and losing friends it doesn’t matter because at the end all our sacrifice will be worth it.
ReplyDelete“If we do not act, we shall surely be dragged down the long, dark and shameful corridors of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without morality, and strength without insight.” ---Dr. Martin Luther King,
- After reading this quote, I believe if we don't act or make decision for ourselves, we will live in our life that full of darkness, shame, and disappointment.
“I believe that serving and being served are reciprocal and that one cannot really be one without the other.” ---Robert Greenleaf, educator and writer
- This quote reminded me of my grandparents, they taught me about good deed. One thing that we can do in life is reach out, offering your help, love, and compassion to the lives of others.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” ---Margaret Mead
- Don't wait for the changes, be the change before everything is too late even when you start with small things. A small group of thoughtful, caring, and committed people can be very huge impact to our society to make the world become a better place.
My favorite quote is: "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit." Aristotle

ReplyDeleteQuote #1: This quote speaks to me in a personal level. Given my lack of action in some aspects of my life, I feel as if this causes me to be a bad person. When I put things into perspective, I’m not yet at the level of people who are evil, as I still got long ways to go before I’m a fully developed adult. Overall, this quote brings home the message that in order to DO good in the world, you have to DO something. ANYTHING. There’s no such thing as a “good” person who’s lazy.
ReplyDeleteQuote #2: Again, this quote applies to me on a daily basis. I always try to help without expecting anything in return, but I have come to realize that the more good you do, the more that people come to help you when you most need it. It’s a funny thing when the universe allows for circumstances to align in order to push you to where your mindset is. I guess in short, this can all be summarized in one word: Karma. Not the “bad shit happens” karma that has been popularized over recent years, but the original one. The one that says that if you do good things, good things happen, and if you do bad things, they happen too.
Quote #3: HOLY SHIT. YES. Sorry for the language, but FUCK YES!! I love this quote. This is so true, even in our daily lives. When we think of Apple, Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Snapchat, they all happened because of a small group of people with dreams. I know they’re not necessarily the best examples, but think how those companies have changed our lives. This quote I think is a call to action. Rather than being part of the herd, we need to rise to the challenges that this world has bestowed upon us. Let’s get our shit together and figure it out!!!
My Quotes:
Les Brown:
“Other people's opinion of you does not have to become your reality.”
“When life knocks you down, try to land on your back. Because if you can look up, you can get up. Let your reason get you back up.”
“Forgive yourself for your faults and your mistakes and move on.”
Eric Thomas:
“I’ve got a dream that’s worth more than my sleep.”
“Don’t quit. You’re already in pain. You’re already hurt. Get a reward from it.”
“Winners focus on winning. Losers focus on winners.”
Jared Leto:
“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”
“Dreams are the result of a million choices, a billion failures, and a few successes.”
“If we do not act, we shall surely be dragged down the long, dark and shameful corridors of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without morality, and strength without insight.” ---Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
ReplyDeleteThis quote motivates me and tells me that I should always give it my all. Step out of my comfort zone and make proactive decisions.
“I believe that serving and being served are reciprocal and that one cannot really be one without the other.” ---Robert Greenleaf, educator and writer
I feel that this quote states that as we do good and help others out without expecting anything in return, in the least expected moments, some good will come our way. Treat people fairly and those people will treat you the same way.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” ---Margaret Mead
A small group of determined people have the potential to do great and bring change. Never underestimate your goals and if you have someone special with the same goal, your teamwork will prove to be victorious over all the hardship.
The quote by Martin Luther King means to me that if we do not change things for good we will be dragged into a life full of darkness. Only we can change our own future.
ReplyDeleteThe second quote to me is defined as needing help, it doesn't matter how old, how big, or how small, people always need help from others to better themselves and that is what this quote is addressing. No one is better than anyone.
Lastly, what I understood from this quote is that people like me, the ones that are not given credit for what we grow into this world are the ones who make this world a better place. We are the ones that want to make a difference in society and want to live in a better place so we do something to make that happen.
“If we do not act, we shall surely be dragged down the long, dark and shameful corridors of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without morality, and strength without insight.” ---Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
ReplyDeleteI realized if I want to be good or doing well and have morality, compassion; I need act and practice for it and learn about that. I need to try and show the good quality to the people because If I do not practice; I become the person who maybe with high education, smart, power but without morality and good quality.
“I believe that serving and being served are reciprocal and that one cannot really be one without the other.” ---Robert Greenleaf, educator and writer
I really believe this quote and I cannot be success and happy if no body help me and without communication with them. From my experience when I am serving the people and do something without any thing to return. I really learned self-giving and improve my quality because of that made me happy and I think I am really useful.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” ---Margaret Mead
This one means I can change the world and it does not matter I am alone or have the small group of friend that they think like me. We can help together to change the world and it is nothing to be negative and stop us.
I believe that these three quotes all connect to eachother. The first quote is trying to give us a message about how we often see the negativity of things and instead of acting, we let those things take over. If we do not fight for our rights and beliefs, people with power will take control. The second quote is trying to tell us that we shouldn't expect recieve without giving. In order to recieve you have to offer as well which connects to the first quote because you can't expect change without action. The third quote has an important message as well; it's trying to make us understand that we have the power within us. If we work together we can do big things. We have to take risks and show what we have to offer to the world.
ReplyDelete"It's not the FUTURE that you're afraid of. It's repeating the PAST that makes you anxious."
"If we do not act, we shall surely be dragged down the long, dark and shameful corridors of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without morality, and strength without insight.” ---Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
ReplyDelete- What I got from this quote is that sometimes we don't speak up or let our voices be heard when something terrible is happening, and as a result of that, we have to suffer with the consequences. There's times where we have to power to peak up and make a change but we are scared to do It.
“I believe that serving and being served are reciprocal and that one cannot really be one without the other.” ---Robert Greenleaf, educator and writer
- I believe that this quote is trying to say that in order to move forward in life, theres going to be times where you're going to give something and Get nothing in return. But there will also be times where you lend a hand and that person returns you the favor. I personally like giving or helping out people in need without expecting something in return because I'm doing it with the purpose of helping them, and not receiving something from that.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” ---Margaret Mead
- What I understood from this quote is that it doesn't matter if there's a small group of people, because as long as they share a common goal and are committed and thoughtful, they will be unstoppable against any group, even if they are larger in size. What moves a group forward is the determination, dedication and the passion they gave with their common goal.
My quotes:
"The best way to predict your future is to create it." - Abraham Lincoln
"Knowing others is intelligence; Knwoing yourself is wisdom.
Mastering others is strength; mastering others is power." - Lao Tzu
1)change is necessary and if we do not do anything we will be stuck in what could be awful conditions. I see this when we have a problem and we just get stuck and do nothing to solve it, instead of doing our best to solve it.
ReplyDelete2)I understood from this quote that we need to help in ordered to be help. The world doesn't go just around us and it is necessary to also look at other persons need when trying to get something from them.
3) changes and idea start from one person. Sometimes we believe that we do not have the power to change something that is unfair but most of the time all it requires is a person willing to give it all. Each one of us is capable of fighting for what we believe in and want, we just have to do it.
“If we do not act, we shall surely be dragged down the long, dark and shameful corridors of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without morality, and strength without insight.” ---Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
ReplyDeleteIf all we do is complain, we are not working towards a solution but. If in our community we complain but not act or talk with the people in power, nothing will change. We must show our frustrations in peaceful gatherings and protests, we must talk with the officials and demand changes to be made. We also have the right to remove ofri ials from power and replacing them with people we find more adequate for the position.
“I believe that serving and being served are reciprocal and that one cannot really be one without the other.” ---Robert Greenleaf, educator and writer
I find this qoute to be true. I serve my community and my community serves me. Even though this is not the way I look at it, I don't do things expecting something in return. I might work with someone or for them and in return I can get a letter of recommendation or job opportunities.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” ---Margaret Mead
This quote really touches home with me as I am part of a community group in city heights and in the past two years we have really achieved many great things. We were able to get the san Diego unified school district yo declare and work into becoming a restorative district. As well as accepting and working with us in developing a school climate bill of rights. The community tram was alos able to get the RCC running in city heights and that alone has changed lives.
1) what i understood from this quote is that we have the great power to change our paths/futures. Any obstacke that gets thrown at us we have the power to change it. If these outcomes dont change then it is our ouwn fault that these outcomes have grown because we didnt do anything about it.
ReplyDelete2) i believe this quote refers to the fact that ehag we recive we can give back. My mother has taught me to be slefless and do everything out of the pureness of your heart. A good heart will always find help and support due to the help and support the good heart gives.
3) this quote reminds me that even the smallest thing can make a change. If one needs to make a big change, they can start eith the smallest things and then grow onto something different. One spark can start a fire. One small thing can make a difderence.
My quotes:
”Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life, but it ain’t how hard you can hit. It’s how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. It’s how much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.”
– Rocky
"Do or do not, there is no try"
-Yoda
"Ive had these abilities for about six months now, i can't just hide these abilities and not help the small guy. If i dont do anything these abilities and bad things happen. They happen because of you"
-Spider-man/ Peter Parker
1. I believe that words deserve actions and that no matter what we say if we don't act according to what we say our words aren't worth nothing.
ReplyDelete2.giving and receiving are together as one for everyone should give to others what they want to recieve. Golden rule.
3. It's a small group of dedicated people that will really create a big movement. For every small step they take will mark a big difference in the world.
We have to work to get her to become stronger. Like showing good vibes and positive attitude teach people how to become better. We have to thing before we do something. You shouldn't let the negative stuff get to u. Like working as a group building the marshmallow with the sticks was showing that we are able to cooperate with each other n can do a better job as a team. You always have to speak the truth and treat other the way you want to be treated.w hat we can do is work in making our community stronger getting involved.
ReplyDelete“If we do not act, we shall surely be dragged down the long, dark and shameful corridors of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without morality, and strength without insight.” ---Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
ReplyDelete It makes me think that the quote is saying" if we don't do something, something isn't going to happen for example if we don't vote we won't get the right president, there will be a president but won’t be the right one then we will regret it. Second example if we don’t our homework we are going to regret it later in a dark room by ourselves. I think it’s a message to wake people up saying to not regretting things before it happened and take start taking action. Regrets are a dark, shameful place to be in.
“I believe that serving and being served are reciprocal and that one cannot really be one without the other.” ---Robert Greenleaf, educator and writer
This quote makes me think about nature and earth. In this world there has to be a bond between something to become something. So it’s saying that one by isn’t strong enough we need a group. Because it has always been like this, we human need to eat and we need both the hot and cold, we need food every day to keep on growing and staying alive. So one must relay on other to become a group and the group need each other to be able to make it to their goals.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” ---Margaret Mead
This quote is saying the anything is possible so never judge about book by it’s cover. And it’s a message that involve politic and a strong message to open people’s eyes that citizen even when we are a small group we can change the world.
"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." Mahatma Gandhi
ReplyDeleteI choose this quote because it's true, we go our whole life's trying to please other and get know benefit from it but we fail to realize is your happiness matters more than anything so before you wanna give, be selfish cause there's probably they won't do the same in return on other words love yourself.
Never stop doing you best just because someone doesn't give you credit
ReplyDeleteIs my favorite quete because everything I do i need to do it best even i dont get credit for it
